SCUBA DIVING in Mexico took a nasty hit when Hurricane Wilma slammed into Cozumel and Cancun severely damaging hotels, hotel docks, beaches and coral reefs. Despite the severe damage to resort infrastructure, CDNN reports that some dive resort and dive boat owners are already up and running just over a week after the onslaught of wind and waves. Due to a shortage of construction crews and technicians, full recovery is likely to take months, though some hope to rebuild and reopen before Christmas. If you're planning on diving in Cozumel or Cancun in the next few months, make sure you reserve accommodation and all diving in advance with the best available dive operator. For dive consumer ratings that will point you to the best scuba diving centers, go to our new Dive Cozumel directory. November 1, 2005 :: Posted by n parry-davies |

SCUBA DIVING in Central America attracts dive travelers who prefer to avoid package tour crowds and generic dive trips. While Belize is the one Central American country that has definitely lost its innocent charm (thanks to crime, overcrowding and Hugh Parkey's ugly dolphin exploitation schemes), Guatemala, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Panama, and to a lesser extent, Costa Rica and Honduras, remain relatively "flotsam-free". For control freaks, there are always franchise liveaboards and all-inclusive dive resorts that boast exactly the same generic dive travel experience from Key West to Phuket. For more adventuresome travelers, there's still Central America. Dive in to ScubaLinx Central America for the good, the better and the best! September 12, 2005 :: Posted by n parry-davies |
